General Information

Additive Manufacturing, which is one of the new generation manufacturing technologies, is a group technology in which parts are produced by adding material by laying many thin layers on top of each other, and its terminology has been created with the ASTM F2792 standard (Additive Manufacturing Technology Standards). The additive  manufacturing method uses three-dimensional printing (3D Printing) approach to transform engineering design files into fully functional and durable objects. In this technology, where each layer is melted to form the geometry determined by the three-dimensional CAD model, it is possible to manufacture parts with very complex geometries without the use of any tools or fixtures and without waste material. In this way, Additive Manufacturing Technologies emerges as an innovative, rapidly developing sector that is given importance in the world. It will have a feature that will prevent companies from stocking up on spare parts and save billions of dollars.

Additive Manufacturing Technologies Application and Research Center (EKTAM) contributes to university-industry cooperation by conducting scientific, technological and applied research in order to develop new generation additive manufacturing technologies. It carries out joint R&D activities in cooperation with private industry and public institutions for the development of domestic and original additive manufacturing production benches and subsystems.

In addition to product development and manufacturing, scientific research studies;
  1. Powder metallurgy and materials technology (materials science and mechanical engineering),
  2. Developing high value-added products/production methods using additive manufacturing technology (mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering)
  3. Work continues in the main areas of development of additive manufacturing technology (mechanical, electrical-electronic, computer, mechatronics engineering).

In the center, it is aimed to increase the competitiveness of our country in this technology field, which is described as the manufacturing technology of the future, to provide relevant technological developments and to produce unique technological products and information with high added value. In addition, thanks to the international academic collaborations established, it is aimed to create an education-research infrastructure that will enable the European Union framework programs and/or bilateral cooperation programs to prepare joint research projects on this subject and to grant joint doctorate degrees.

The center's activities are carried out with full-time master's and doctoral students, and efforts are made to encourage these students to become entrepreneurs and founders of technology companies in the sector after their graduation. In line with the studies, it contributes to the academic knowledge of both the country and the world by raising publications, patents and scientists.

The dual advisor and dual degree doctoral program was designed between Gazi University and Michigan State University (MSU) in the field of additive manufacturing only. Competent researchers in the field of additive manufacturing will be trained by accepting doctoral students not only from Turkey but also from other countries, especially the United States.
